My First Lullaby

My daddy is a musical man. I think, maybe, I was meant to be his little girl because music is the place where we have always met. Dad has been teaching me about his world of music since the day he brought me home to Prestwick Lane in San Antonio, Texas. No matter our differences, we can always go down to the studio, put on his big, goofy headphones, and lose ourselves in the beauty we find there. It’s magical.

The first song that I remember standing at his knee learning the words to as he strummed his guitar is “Lullaby” by Dan Seals.

Sleep lay me down, hold me closely in your arms
And I will close my eyes
Please promise me that when I wake up from my dreams
You’ll be there by my side

Love, if you say you won’t slip away
Then I can go dreaming of forever more
But I won’t rest until
I know that you’ll be here in the morning by my side

Here in my reach
I can see the one that I’ve waited for so long
And deep in my heart I’ll know the arms that hold me now
Will hold me from now on

Love, if you say you won’t slip away
Then I can go dreaming of forever more
But I won’t rest until
I know that you’ll be here in the morning by my side

I dread the dawn I awake and find you gone
Please tell me you will stay
Then sleep will come, I know the arms that hold me now
Will hold me all my days

Love, if you say you won’t slip away
Then I can go dreaming of forever more
But I won’t rest until
I know that you’ll be here in the morning by my side
