My Project 365: A Dog A Day (Day 14) URGENT

Due to the urgent nature of this dog, posting early!!

Day 14

My Project 365: A Dog A Day

I will select a dog a day to share here.

A dog that is sheltered or fostered in the continental US.

A dog that needs a loving home.

A dog that wants a second chance.

Milo

***ATTENTION: MILO (ID#0921450) is on TONIGHT’S (1/13/12)  euthanasia list & will be put down TOMORROW MORNING (1/14/12) if not adopted***This boy is only 4 months old and 37lbs…and he is TERRIFIED at the shelter. As such, he did not score well on his behavior evaluation (showing signs of resource guarding & some issues with the dog he tested with). A seasoned shelter volunteer said the following about MILO: “Milo …is in one of the worst positions at the shelter: he is located in “overflow” (a small cage in the hallway) by the back door. There is CONSTANT activity and the door slams all day long, non-stop. This is hard for ANY dog to handle, let alone one who is so scared. He hugs the back of his kennel from fear…breaks my heart.”  MILO is SO young and SO scared at the shelter, that it comes to no surprise that his behavior wasn’t stellar during his evaluation. Let’s help this boy to make it out. Let’s give him the chance he deserves.

MILO is not available for direct adoption from the shelter; meaning, you will need a rescue group to facilitate the adoption on your behalf.

STATUS: AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AT MANHATTAN AC&C

Meet MILO!!! ID# 0921450

Male

4 months old

37 lbs.

This boy is TERRIFIED at the shelter 😦

MILO is not available for direct adoption from the shelter; meaning, you will need a rescue group to facilitate the adoption on your behalf.

A volunteer writes:  Milo is a little speck, hugging the back of the kennel, a scared puppy (at first).   It took a little coaxing for him to agree to join me for a walk, but tentatively he stepped out and off we went.  Milo is only 4 mos old, surrendered to the shelter by his owner who said he had no time for him.  It is not surprising that he is scared in a place with lots of barking dogs, new smells and loud noises.  Milo is all puppy sweetness with a healthy shiny coat.  He warmed up after a short while and his tail began to wag gently, although he was still a bit wary of this new situation.  We spent some time together and when I put him back in his kennel I made him a little nest for security.  I passed his kennel all day with other dogs, and I saw that he was becoming more confident, coming to the front of his kennel to watch the activities.  What a major step for this scared little boy!!  I took him out again before I left and he has come a long way in just a day.  His tail wagged right away, he was happy to see me and he was clearly becoming more confident.  I look forward to my next meeting with him.  Milo needs a home with a person willing to put in the time to train him, and most importantly to love him and provide the security that he and any puppy needs.  If you are the person ready to make that commitment to him, ask to meet him today

This dog is located at the Manhattan AC&C (326 E 110th Street, NYC 10029). Please act quickly and GO DIRECTLY TO THE SHELTER to adopt (open 7 days per week from 8AM-7PM, adoptions opens at noon). If the dog is on the euthanasia list, you must CALL THE SHELTER to let them know that you are coming (212-722-4939 keep hitting 0 until someone picks up. Do not leave a message when the recording picks up — keep hitting 0 until your hear a voice!).

Please contact participating rescue groups to see if they can assist you: http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/about/apos/atoz.htm.

On behalf of the dog before you, THANK YOU!
