My Project 365: A Dog A Day (Day 15)

Day 15

My Project 365: A Dog A Day

I will select a dog a day to share here.

A dog that is sheltered or fostered in the continental US.

A dog that needs a loving home.

A dog that wants a second chance.

Urgent! Malia is having an allergic reaction to something here in the shelter! Her face has swollen and she is clearly uncomfortable, but she’s still active and acting normally otherwise. She needs a foster or adoptive home ASAP to get out of the shelter environment. If you can help, please email her Pen Pal at or ACCT’s Lifesaving Manager at!

1-2 year old

Entered as a stray

Malia says: I’m always happy, and it’s contagious! You can’t help …but smile when you’re with me! I’m too happy to spend my days in a kennel–I belong in sunshine, in your arms, and on your couch! I came to the shelter as a stray but hey, who cares what my past was like because I’m just a happy girl all the time and that’s what is REALLY important. I passed my evaluation with FLYING colors. The evaluator said I was wiggly, happy, and gave lots of kisses. Yep, that about sums me up! I have no food issues and I am awesome with other dogs! I would probably be too interested in kitties to go home with them. With my doggie friends, I’m playful but not out of control. I know when to back off, and if the other dog is too much, I’ll say so politely and do my own thing. I am really good at reading other dogs and my Pen Pal (shelter volunteer who dotes on me) says she thinks that’s one of my best traits! Sometimes on a leash I get really excited to see other dogs, but I am working on being calmer when I see other dogs on walks.  I’ve met young children and did well with them, but I still need someone to teach me the basics because I can be very jumpy sometimes. I probably never walked on a leash before coming to a shelter, so I’m learning how to walk properly. I really like going on walks, so I’m learning fast! I am a medium energy girl and will need daily walks to keep me happy and healthy. I know “sit” and I’m really good at it. I like treats so I’m easy to train. I’m learning “leave it”, “down”, “stay” and “touch”. I would be a superstar in a basic obedience class and it’d be a fun way for you and me to bond! One of my special skills is making people smile and feel happier when they’re around me. I can’t wait to meet you so that I can bring a smile to YOUR face! I’m part of the Pen Pal program here at the shelter, so my Pen Pal works on my skills and makes sure I get lots of attention. She also helps me meet possible future families! If you have questions or would like to set up a meet, email her above! If you have dogs or kids, they should come meet me to make sure it’s a good fit!
