My Project 365: A Dog a Day (Day 29)

Day 29

My Project 365: A Dog A Day

I will select a dog a day to share here.

A dog that is sheltered or fostered in the continental US.

A dog that needs a loving home.

A dog that wants a second chance.

This beautiful dog was found as a stray! She needs a loving foster or adoptive home where she can recover from a common doggie-cold and get back to being the great dog we know she is! Please read Wanda’s bio below and consider saving her life!

Meet Wanda (15048264)!

6-8 years old

ACCT says: This beautiful, affectionate girl is an ~6-8 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog/Staffordshire Terrier mix who was brought to the Philadelphia Animal Control shelter as a stray in mid-January. She has the most uniquely colored coat, which looks a bit like cookies and cream ice cream and draws attention from everyone she meets. Unfortunately, no one has stepped up to foster or adopt her yet! Wanda did well in her behavior evaluation; she loved being petted and had no issues with basic or advanced handling. She was a little hesitant of giving up her food, but we’re not sure of when her last meal was when she first came to the shelter and she takes treats very gently. She already knows basic commands like “sit” and appears to be housebroken! Wanda showed no interest in the cats here at the shelter, but was a distracted by the smell of yummy cat food so she should have another test before being placed with them. Wanda met several dogs here at the shelter and while she is friendly, she can be a little pushy in her interactions and would prefer the company of a lower-energy dog like herself rather than a rambunctious pup, as her rumble-tumble days of playing are likely over. Please bring your resident dogs down to meet her to make sure its a good match. Families with children under 8 should bring them down to meet her as well! Wander is a wonderful girl who would make a great addition to many families. Please consider taking a chance on this older girl!

Meet FATIMA!!! ID# 0893526

1.7 years old

62 lbs

Previous owner passed away

A volunteer writes [updated bio]:  For those of us who knew Fatima when she was originally adopted from us, we were sad to learn that her owner has passed away and she is back with us again.  We loved her then as a puppy and love her even more as an adult.  Fatima was clealy loved, her coat is healthy, she is slightly chunky and is still the lover girl she was as a puppy.  She is smiling a bit less now as her world has been turned upside down, but when I came to visit her and take her for a walk she stood up to hug and kiss me, showing the affectionate side I remember so well.    We are told that Fatima loves other dogs, has lived with cats (hello CAT people), sits on command and is housetrained.  She is such a good girl, a girl who wants to love and be loved that we are praying that a new family welcomes her quickly.  She will fit into any family situation giving lots of kisses and hugs and snuggling up close.  She is that constant companion that you can count on through thick or through thin.  Meet her in Manhattan and welcome her into your home today.

Original bio: Meet Fatima–not quite a year old and already a smiler extraordinaire! This white pit mix with tan spots has one of the best smiles in the shelter, and a personality to go with it. Fatima is impossible to pass by without stopping to engage–her stance is pretty much “I’m not going to be ignored.” She stands at attention when a visitor shows up, paws against the door of her kennel, and sometimes she bounces in place. She will do the same thing outside at times–jump up and down–as this is an 11-month-old pup with puppy energy and no way to work it off in a shelter. This is most likely why she was given the behavior rating of “moderate” upon admission to the shelter as a stray. Because she is every inch the love bug, adores contact whether as hugs, scratches or kisses, and just has so much joie de vivre that she doesn’t know what to do with herself. The ideal home for Fatima would include someone who is able to give her the exercise she craves.  I watched her calm down the longer we stayed outside, and the more she got to walk and check out the nabe. Undaunted by rain and wind, Fatima showed friendly curiosity when she saw other dogs. She is an expressive and energetic companion in need of a loving forever home. Come meet the amazing FATIMA at the Manhattan shelter.
