Meet Huck Finn!!! ID A14918850

6-12 months

55 pounds

Philly ACCT says: Found by a Philadelphia police officer in an abandoned building, left to fend for himself. We’re not sure how long he was left by himself, but he came to the shelter very emaciated! Since then, he has put on quite a bit of weight and is beginning to look like the handsome boy he is meant to be. Huck is a young, 6-12 month old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who weighs in around 55 pounds. Though he has already put on a few pounds, he should probably weigh closer to 60. He has a beautiful light honey-colored brindle coat with white accents. Huck is working on forgetting his past and looking towards his future, but he’s having a hard time forgetting how hungry he was! Huck spends a lot of his time seeking out treats, but his Pen Pal is currently helping him to put more weight on, focus on other fun things like toys (he really likes the ones that squeak!) and walks and how to take treats nicely! Huck has no issues with basic or advanced handling and despite being so thin, has no food aggression or guarding. Huck already knows some basic commands like “sit” and “paw” and is currently working on “down”, “stay” and “heel”! He walks well on a leash while using an easy walk harness and knows that he should walk next to his handler. He showed no interest in cats here at the shelter, but should have another test before going home with any. Huck met a few dogs so far during his stay at the shelter and is friendly and playful with them! When he sees other dogs out in the yard, he loves to play bow and say hello. Please bring your dogs down to meet him to make sure its a good match. Huck is a young dog who will require daily exercise and he would benefit from additional obedience training, but is very food motivated! Huck is already neutered and microchipped and is up-to-date on vaccinations, meaning he can go home today! Please bring the family down to meet Huck today — he’s ready and willing for a new adventure in a foster or forever home!

Huck is part of the ACCT Pen Pal Program. He is currently paired with a volunteer who works with him on a regular basis to teach him basic commands, provide him exercise and help to keep him stress-free and happy while living in the shelter. She also promotes him to potential foster parents and adopters! Want more information on Huck Finn? Email his Pen Pal at or stop by the shelter today!
