Don’t You Remember – Adele

When will I see you again?
You left with no goodbye, not a single word was said,
No final kiss to seal any seams,
I had no idea of the state we were in,

I know I have a fickle heart and bitterness,
And a wandering eye, and a heaviness in my head,

But don’t you remember?
Don’t you remember?
The reason you loved me before,
Baby, please remember me once more,

When was the last time you thought of me?
Or have you completely erased me from your memory?
I often think about where I went wrong,
The more I do, the less I know,

But I know I have a fickle heart and bitterness,
And a wandering eye, and a heaviness in my head,

But don’t you remember?
Don’t you remember?
The reason you loved me before,
Baby, please remember me once more,

Gave you the space so you could breathe,
I kept my distance so you would be free,
And hope that you find the missing piece,
To bring you back to me,

Why don’t you remember?
Don’t you remember?
The reason you loved me before,
Baby, please remember me once more,

When will I see you again?

This is one of those songs that I hear and I know that I can not possibly be the only one who has ever been through “this”. I waited 14 months for him and he only lived 5 miles away. At the time, I was sure that waiting was what he wanted. Now, I am just as sure that my waiting made me a joke to him. Who could convince herself so foolishly that when he said “I love you, I just can’t be with you” he meant he was coming back, ever? But now I know. We are with those we want to be with. Excuses for why we are not with them are just the cowards way out of saying it’s over.
